Mark Brackstone

Mark Brackstone is Principal Research Fellow on Intelligent Transport Systems and Urban Space within MUSALab. His work has focused on transportation modelling, and ITS and CCAM design and impact assessment at a wide range of Technology Readiness Levels, with a particular interest in driver behaviour and automated vehicle impacts. He holds a PhD in Physics from University of Southampton.He has recently returned to academia after 21 years in industry, having worked at TRL, Scott-Wilson and Egis, and culminating as Head of R&D Projects at Aimsun. Prior to this he spent 15 years at TRG Southampton Uni. During his career he has been involved at both technical and managerial levels within a range of Collaborative R&D RIA and IA projects funded by Horizon Europe (eg. TANGENT, i4Driving, Green-Log, SPINE, PHOEBE, SYNCHROMODE, ACUMEN and GEMINI) and other bodies, including EPSRC, the UKRI (eg. HumanDRIVE, FLOURISH, OmniCAV) and ESA. These have dealt with blue-sky concepts all the way through to strategic assessments, such as the MULTITUDE COST Action.Mark has been Associate Editor for the IEEE-ITS Journal for almost 25 years, and has reviewed and published across a wide range of publications, from Ergonomics to the Transportation Research Record, Transpometrica and Transportation Research C and F. He has served on a wide variety Transportation Research Board Committees including; Traffic Flow Theory (TFT), Vehicle-Highway Automation; Joint Simulation Subcommittee (SimSub); Simulation & Measurement of Vehicle Operator Performance, and Vehicle User Characteristics.
