Mobility Credits Scrappage Scheme

The Coventry Mobility Credits project explored how financial incentives could encourage people to give up older, polluting vehicles and shift towards cleaner, shared and public transport options. Working with Transport for West Midlands and Coventry City Council, the project developed the design of a mobility credits scrappage scheme and an accompanying evaluation framework to assess its longer-term effects on travel behaviour, car ownership, congestion and air quality. The work combined literature review, spatial and transport data analysis, stakeholder engagement, focus groups and multicriteria analysis to support the design of the Coventry trial.
